Spinner’s four for 20 helps visitors register a six-wicket win
Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliant bowling performance helped Kolkata Knight Riders in registering a six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Kolkata on Tuesday.
The day started with the visitors winning the toss and opting to field first. Their decision seemed to backfire early as the home side off to a great start, courtesy 63-run opening-wicket partnership between Jos Buttler and Rahul Tripathi, that too inside the first five overs.
But once Tripathi departed on the bowling of Andre Russell, Kolkata made a great comeback by taking wickets regularly and restricted the home side to just 142. Buttler finished the innings with the top score of 39 off 22 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes, whereas Tripathi scored 27 off 15 balls with the help of four fours and one six.
For Kolkata, left-arm chainman Yadav was the star of the show as he claimed figures of four for 20 in his four overs. He was well supported by pacers Russell and Prasidh Krishna, who claimed two wickets each.
In reply, visitors lost in-form opener Sunil Narine early at the score of 21 in the second over, and soon after that lost veteran batsman Robin Uthappa as well. However, opener Chris Lynn played a responsible knock and put his team in the commanding position, from where captain Dinesh Karthik’s handy innings took the team over the line in with two overs to spare at the expense of just five wickets.
Lynn finished the innings the innings with the top score of 45 off 42 balls with the help of five fours and one six, whereas Karthik scored 41 not out off 31 balls with the help of five fours and one six. For Rajasthan, all-rounder Ben Stokes was the best bowler on the show as he claimed figures of three for 15 in his four overs.
For his outstanding bowling performance, Yadav was named player of the match.
