The first T20I game of the series saw India comfortably brush aside England by 8 wickets at Old Trafford, Manchester. Lokesh Rahul produced a sublime century to help India take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The wicket-keeper batsman has been in a splendid form of late after doing well in the Indian Premier League this year. He smashed 101 runs off 54 balls to see India complete the chase in the 18th over of the innings.
Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed by David Willey in the first over of the innings but Lokesh Rahul and Rohit Sharma put on a 123-run partnership to put India in a good position to win the game. Sharma struggled to score quickly but rotated the strike well to keep the scoreboard ticking. Rahul went after the bowlers to see India score at a brisk rate.
Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 32 as Adil Rashid picked up his first wicket of the innings. Lokesh Rahul particularly was severe against Moeen Ali and smashed him for a couple of sixes. He remained unbeaten till the end and scored 101 off 54 balls with the help of five sixes.
Virat Kohli also chipped in with an unbeaten 22 runs off 20 balls. Indian Captain also managed to achieve a milestone by becoming the first batsman from India to complete 2,000 runs in T20 format. Kohli finished the game off in style by smashing a huge six off the bowling of Moeen Ali.
Early in the day, Jos Buttler was the star for England with the bat. The wicket-keeper batsman smashed 69 runs off 46 balls to see England post 159 for 8 in 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav ran through the middle order to finish with career-best figures of 5 for 24 from his four overs. Umesh Yadav also chipped in with two wickets and conceded just 21 runs from his four overs.
For his mesmerizing display with the ball, Kuldeep Yadav was named player of the match.
