MS Dhoni-led side register a 64-run win on Friday
Shane Watson played an outstanding knock to help Chennai Super Kings in registering a 64-run win against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Pune on Friday. The day started with Rajasthan captain Ajinkya Rahane winning the toss and opting to field first. His decision, however, backfired completely as the home side posted a mammoth total of 204 for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
The star of the show for the hosts was veteran all-rounder Watson, who scored his fourth T20 century and smashed 106 off just 57 balls with the help of nine fours and six sixes. He was well supported by veteran middle-order batsman Suresh Raina, who scored 46 off 29 balls with the help of nine fours. West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo also made a handy contribution for the team by scoring 24 not out off just 16 balls with the help of four fours.
For Rajasthan, leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal was the real star for the team, as he claimed three wickets and just gave away 20 runs in his four overs.
In reply, Rajasthan had a horrid beginning as they lost first three wickets for just 32 runs inside the first five overs. However, a 45-run fourth-wicket partnership between two Englishmen – Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler – kept the team alive in the contest.
But once Buttler departed on the first delivery of the 11th over, it opened the floodgates for the home side, who sealed the victory in the 19th over when Rajasthan were bowled out for just 140. Stokes finished the innings with the top score of 45 off 37 with the help of three fours and one six, whereas Buttler scored 22 off 17 balls.
For Chennai, pacers Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Bravo and leg-spinner Karn Sharma claimed two wickets each.
