Three Batsmen to watch out for West Indies in Test series vs England

Despite poor performances in white-ball cricket, West Indies has done reasonably better in longest format of the game. Last year, Jason Holder-led unit delivered an inspirational performance to beat England in three-match Test series played in the Caribbean. The lost the two-match series against India but come back strongly to win the one-off series against Afghanistan.

Since Covid-19 pandemic outbreak around the world, major cricketing events and tours were postponed. West Indies have not played any competitive cricket since Afghanistan series. The side will be looking to adjust to the English conditions and do well in the three-match series against England.

Given their mercurial nature, West Indies can surprise England in this three-match series. No one forget Shai Hope’s twin centuries at Headingley to see West Indies register a famous Test match win in 2017.

We will look at the three players that can score big runs for West Indies in the upcoming three-match series vs England.

Shai Hope

There is no doubt that Shai Hope has struggled in red-ball cricket in the past 12 months. In 5 matches, Hope has only scored 158 runs at an average of 19.75 with one half-century to his name.

Despite his recent struggles, Shai Hope holds an excellent record against England in Test cricket. Overall, Hope has accumulated 508 runs in 13 innings at an average of 42.33 with two centuries and two half-centuries to his name.

In last tour to England, Hope performed exceedingly well and finished as the leading run-scorer for West Indies in the three-match series. He scored 375 runs at an average of 75.00. He will certainly take heart from the fact that he has done well in English conditions. The team management will be hoping that he can get back to his best with the bat in the upcoming three-match Test series.

Kraigg Brathwaite

The 27-year old all-rounder will be looking to lead from the front with the bat and produce runs . for the West Indies at the top of the innings. Since Jan 2019, Brathwaite has endured a lean run with the bat and scored 185 runs in 12 innings at an average of 16.81.

He is another player who performed well on his previous tour to the UK. In three-match series played in 2017 in England, Brathwaite accumulated 283 runs at an average of 47.16 with one century to his name.

Brathwaite will be looking to get back amongst the runs and deliver notable scores for West Indies in the three-match series.

Shane Dowrich

Wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich has proven to be a bankable performer with the bat in Test cricket. Since past 12 months, Dowrich has accumulated 246 runs in 6 innings at an average of 49.20.

The 28-year old will be looking to contribute to the team’s cause in the upcoming three-match Test series. He is definitely improved his game behind the stumps and looking to do well in English conditions, where there is a lot of swing and seam movement for quick bowlers.
