Sohail Tanvir and Jason Mohammad chipped with in vital contributions to see Guyana notch up a seven-wicket win over St. Lucia in a game played at Caribbean Premier League.
The bowling was also good as Rayad Emrit and Rashid Khan produced economical spells to restrict Stars to just 100 runs off 20 overs. Guyana lost both their openers as the side slumped to 22 for 2 in pursuit of 101 runs posted by St Lucia. Chadwick Walton and Captain Martin Guptill were dismissed for low scores.
Sohail Tanvir promoted to open the innings played well to keep the innings together for Guyana. The left-hander struck leg spinner Edie Leie for a six in the fifth over of the innings to keep the scoreboard ticking. He added 51 runs with Jason Mohammad to see the side move a step closer to their third win of 2017 Caribbean Premier League. Mohammad stayed till the end to remain unbeaten 42 runs off 36 balls to see the side knock off the runs in the 14th over of the innings.
Earlier, Stars got off to poor start as Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher and Shane Watson went in a quick succession to see in trouble at 35 for 3 after 7.4 overs. Jesse Ryder played well and battled hard to score 29 runs off 30 balls to Stars only manage to get 100 runs on the board from their full quota of overs.
Guyana’s chances of qualifying looked slim at one stage but Trident’s recent loss in form means that they are well in the hunt to go through to the playoffs.
