Kolkata Knight Riders once again came out on top when they played Rising Pune Supergiants at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium,Pune in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League.
Gautam Gambhir won the toss for Kolkata Knight Riders and decided to field first.Ajinkya Rahane once again showed great form as he scored 60 runs off 52 balls that included four fours and three sixes.Steven Smith also played a nice innings of 31 runs before being run out by Sathish.The last end overs saw Knight Riders curtail Rising Pune rate of free scoring as they ended up getting just 160 runs after 20 overs.
Kolkata Knight Riders started badly as they lost both Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir early inside five overs.However,Suryakumar Yadav slotted at no.3 came out and batted like player under control of the situation as he played a match winning innings of 60 runs off 49 balls.The partnership between Yadav and Yousuf Pathan was critical as they put on a 50 run partnership to see their side well on track to hunt down the score.
The dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav and Yousuf Pathan momentarily did bring Rising Pune Supergiants back into the game but Andre Russell did play a nice cameo of 17 runs that propelled Knight Riders to win the game by 2 wickets.The bowling for Rising Pune Supergiants was decent on the night as everyone bowled well according to plans set by their Skipper MS Dhoni.
The win sees Kolkata Knight Riders sit comfortably at the top in the Indian Premier League 2016 while MS Dhoni ‘s Rising Pune will have to get better after losing their fourth consecutive game in a row this season.
