David Warner produced a fabulous innings as he scored his 33rd fifty in the Indian Premier League to help Sunrisers clinch their second win of the competition. The reigning champions show no signs of stopping as they cruised to nine-wicket win over Gujarat Lions in the sixth game of the Indian Premier League played at Hyderabad.
The bowling initially setup the game for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they restricted Gujarat Lions to a below par score of 135 runs in 20 overs. Moises Henriques continued his rich vein of form with the bat as to score an unbeaten 52 runs. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan is truly the find of tenth edition of the Indian Premier League as he currently holds the Purple Cap for most wickets in the competition at the moment. The leg-spinner once again bowled well and took three wickets to stem the flow of runs in the middle order.
Gujarat Lions have now lost their second straight game this season and both in a comprehensive manner. Lions Captain Suresh Raina will need to make changes in order to get the team back to winning ways for the rest of the tournament.
The top guns failed for Gujarat Lions as Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch and Suresh Raina fell for single-digit scores to see the side in all sorts of problem. Jason Roy did all the work and got off to decent as he scored 31 runs off 21 balls before throwing it away to see Gujarat Lions reeling at 57 for 4 in 8.6 overs. Dwayne Smith and Dinesh Karthik came together at a crucial moment and formed a partnership to stage fightback of sorts. The duo added 56 runs to see Gujarat Lions post a score on the board. Karthik struggled for rhythm and timing in his innings early on but then rotated the strike well to move the scoreboard ticking along, Smith was the aggressor of the two as he scored a brisk 27-ball 37 runs and struck four boundaries in his innings before Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed in the 16th over of the innings.
Sunrisers Hyderabad made a great to their innings in the chase as Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner picked up regular boundaries to score runs at a brisk rate. Dhawan was dismissed for 9 by medium pacer Praveen Kumar to see Sunrisers lose their first wicket with 32 runs on the board from 3 overs. Warner also played in his trademark style as he smashed Raina for consecutive sixes to get a move in the game. The South paw came back to form after struggling for runs in India in the Test series. His return to form is another morale booster for Sunrisers Hyderabad who seems to have all bases covered to successfully defend their crown this season.
David Warner smoked a big six to clinch another dominant win for Sunrisers. He remained unbeaten till the end and scored 76 runs off 44 balls.He struck six fours and three sixes in his innings. Henriques played well for his half-century and proved to be perfect foil for Warner at the other end. The duo added 108 runs to see Sunrisers chase down the target in the 15th over of the innings.
Sunrisers now sit comfortably at the top of the points table with two wins out two game played while Gujarat find themselves at the bottom with two consecutive back to back defeats in the tenth edition of Indian Premier League.
