The opening game of the Caribbean Premier League started with a bang as St. Lucia Zouks took on Trinbago Knight Riders at Port of Spain, Trinidad.
A sublime innings played by Darren Bravo who made 62 runs for Trinbago was not enough on the night as Zouks did manage win the game by 6 wickets. Johnson Charles led the way for Zouks with quick-fire 52 runs off 38 balls before the experienced duo of David Miller and Michael Hussey combined together at the crease to see their side to win the game against defending Champions Trinbago Knight Riders. The bowling was tough out there as dew made it difficult for St. Lucia Zouks to find some sort of rhythm with the ball but performed well at the end to keep the scored to a decent one. Darren Bravo started the onslaught as he took 29 runs off the last two overs and struck three sixes to take the side to reach 162 runs after 20 overs.
At the Halfway mark, Trinbago looked firm favorites to take the game but Zouks started well in the chase due to Johnson Charles aggressive intent and stroke play. The game was a tale of contrasting halves as Trinbago struggled to time the ball while Zouks got the most favorable batting conditions in the game. Shane Watson and Johnson Charles started well as they put on an opening stand of 47 runs in just 6 overs. Watson fell for 16 runs while Charles continued his run with flurry of boundaries to bring up his half century. He seemed in terrific touch but played an innocuous shot of the bowling of Sunil Narine to depart for 52 runs. David Miller and Michael Hussey came to the crease and added 43 runs to take the side to close to victory as Darren Sammy hit the winning runs for Zouks to win the game by 6 wickets.
