Srilanka complete whitewash on Australia as they win the third test by 163 runs

The third test match  between Australia and Srilanka was played at SSC in Colombo. Srilanka have already won the series after winning the first two tests. The dead rubber also turned to be one sided as Srilanka once again came out top by winning the third test by 163 runs to complete a whitewash on Australia.

Australia were good with ball as Mitchell Starc produced some stellar performances in the series but the batsmen fell short as they could not cope with turning pitches made in all three games. Angelo Matthews won the toss and decided to bat first. Srilanka found themselves in all sorts of trouble with 26 runs on the board and 5 wickets down in an hour on the first day. The man who really be credited for the amazing turnaround is Dhananjaya de Silva scored a superb century under pressure to steer his to safety as he put 211 runs along with Dinesh Chandimal on the opening day of the test.Mitchell Starc once again produced a probing spell grabbing three wickets ably supported by off spinner Nathan Lyon. Dinesh Chandimal also scored 129 runs to see the hosts get dismissed for 355 for 9 with Rangana Herath unable to bat due to injury. Australia in reply lost the wicket of David Warner for 11 but Shaun Marsh and Steven Smith put on 246 run partnership to produce great effort with the bat. However, once the duo got out the slide came as the 8 wickets fell for 112 runs to see Australia get bowled out for 379 with the visitors managing to get slender lead of 24 runs.

Kausal Silva led the way for Srilanka with a superb ton to see Srilanka get 347 runs to declare and set Australia a target of 323 runs on the last day of the test match. David Warner was the only batsman to get a substantial score as Rangana Herath demolished the whole lineup to claim figures of 7 for 64 to see them bundle out for 160 runs. The hosts won by 163 runs on the final day. Rangana Herath was the main bowler for Srilanka as he claimed 28 wickets and was awarded with Man of the series for Srilanka.

Srilanka have demonstrated a terrific comeback after suffering an all-time low in test cricket in England as they could not win a single game.
