Hosts face Virat Kohli-led side in the final Test of the three-match series in Johannesburg from Wednesday
South Africa will be looking for another impressive performance to compete for an impressive series sweep over struggling India in the third and final Test of the series, starting from Wednesday in Johannesburg.Proteas won the first two Test quite comfortably by 72 and 135 runs respectively, but they faced an Indian side who will be desperate for a positive result.
With no changes expected in the batting department, the focus will be once again on the experienced trio of captain Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers, and Hashim Amla to show what they are exactly capable off, which can help the home side put pressure on the visiting side.
In the bowling department, there are doubts that the hosts might look to go in with the all-pace attack looking at the pitch, which means chances of left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj getting another start seems less bright than before.
For team India, things look extremely unsettled, to say the least. In the batting department, there is no surety of who out of Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul will eventually open the innings, whereas it is also not confirmed which three out of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya will cement their place in the middle order.
If that was not enough, wicketkeeper choice is also not certain as anyone out of Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel will get the final nod.The bowling department is also no better as it remains to be seen which four out of R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah will get a chance to flex muscles against a strong home side’s batting lineup.
The only good thing for the visiting side is the form of captain Virat Kohli, who will be looking to add to his 150 in the second Test. The pitch has some grass on it which means it is likely to assist the pacers, whereas the weather is expected to stay overcast with no major chances of rains.
