Shreyas Iyer’s sublime innings helps Delhi Daredevils pull off a heist against Gujarat Lions

Gujarat Lions will be gutted as Delhi Daredevils managed to pull off an improbable win by 2 wickets in the 50th game of Indian Premier League played at Feroz Shah Kotla. The visitors were on top as Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant fell early in the chase to see hosts in all sorts of trouble. Shreyas Iyer kept the side in the hunt as youngster showed immense composure and nerves of steel to carve out an innings of 96 runs to see his side sneak a win at home.

Shreyas Iyer looked in sublime form as he smashed fifteen fours and two sixes to accumulate runs at a good rate and keep Delhi well in the game till the end. He found a suitable foil at the other end as Cummins also joined the party as duo added 61 runs in a space of four overs. Karun Nair also played a handy knock of 30 runs off 15 balls. Iyer started off with a four off Dhawal Kulkarni and then took the charge against Basil Thampi to smash him for two fours and one six in an over.

Iyer and Cummins changed the course of the game in space of four overs as Delhi needed only nine run off the last over. Amit Mishra was the man to knock off the runs as tail-ender struck two fours to take the side to a hard-fought win.

Earlier, Aaron Finch produced an blistering of innings 69 runs followed by Dinesh Karthik composed knock to see Gujarat Lions pile on 195 runs off 20 overs. Delhi won the toss and opted to field first as Delhi had previously chased down scores in excess of 180 runs at the Kotla.

It was exciting dead rubber as both sides are already eliminated from the competition but Delhi will be pleased with their performance atleast giving the home crowd something to cheer about in a season that has been utterly disappointing.
