Earlier in the day, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision backfired completely as pitch looked perfect for batting. Delhi openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan put on a 56-run partnership for the opening wicket.
Shikhar Dhawan failed to make a big score and perished in the sixth over after scoring 26 runs off 16 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes.
Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer came together at the crease and put on a 73-run partnership to see Delhi Capitals in a good position to post a competitive total in their full quota of overs.
Rookie opener Prithvi Shaw played well and smashed 66 runs off 41 balls with the help of four boundaries and four sixes. He was dismissed by pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti in the 13th over to see Delhi lose their second wicket with 129 runs on the board.

Iyer was well supported by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who smashed a quick-fire 38 off 17 balls with the help of five boundaries and one six.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, medium-pacer Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers and finished with figures of 2 for 29 in his four overs.
Chasing a mammoth score of 229 runs for victory, Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a poor start as makeshift opener Sunil Narine was dismissed in the second over of the innings.
Shubham Gill and Nitish Rana led the fightback for Kolkata Knight Riders with a 64-run partnership for the second wicket.
Shubham Gill once again failed to produce a notable score and perished after scoring 28 runs off 22 balls with the help of two boundaries and one six.
Nitish Rana looked good in his innings and smashed a crucial half-century for Kolkata Knight Riders. Left-hander smashed four boundaries and four sixes in his innings.
Kolkata Knight suffered a collapse as Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell perished in quick succession. With the side reeling at 122 for 6 after 13.3 overs, England’s Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi put on a 78-run partnership for the seventh wicket to take the game down to the wire.
Eoin Morgan showed excellent form and scored 44 runs off 18 balls with the help of one four and five sixes, whereas Rahul Tripathi chipped in with 36 runs off 16 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes.
Despite valiant efforts from Morgan and Tripathi, Kolkata Knight Riders could only post 210 runs in their allotted 20 overs and lost the game by 18 runs.
For Delhi Capitals, pacer Anrich Nortje was best bowler on display and finished with figures of 3 for 33 in his four overs. Medium-pacer Harshal Patel also picked up important wickets of Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik.
