Lokesh Rahul and Shreyas Iyer delivered scintillating performances to help India register a six-wicket win over New Zealand in the 1st T20I game played at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday.
The day started with Indian Skipper Virat Kohli winning the toss and opted to bowl first on a flat pitch. The decision proved to be disaster as New Zealand delivered a splendid batting performance to post a mammoth 203 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Openers Colin Munro and Martin Guptill got the side off to an excellent start and added 80 runs for the opening wicket. Guptill played well and scored 30 runs off 19 balls with the help of four boundaries and one six.
Swashbuckling opener Colin Munro was the standout performer with the bat for New Zealand and finished the innings with the top-score of 59 runs off 42 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes. Captain Kane Williamson made an emphatic return to the T20 cricket for New Zealand. He smashed a quick-fire half-century off 26 balls with the help of four fours and four sixes.
Ross Taylor also played a sublime innings to see New Zealand scoring at a brisk late. Late blitz from Taylor saw New Zealand post a daunting score on the board. Taylor smashed 54 not out off 27 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes.
For India, Jaspreet Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shivam Dube bowled well and claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 204 runs to win, Rohit Sharma perished for a low score to see India lose their first wicket in the second over of the innings. Wicket-keeper batsman Lokesh Rahul and Captain Virat Kohli came together and put on a 99-run partnership to stabilize the innings for India.
Lokesh Rahul played well and scored 56 runs off 27 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes, whereas Kohli chipped in with 45 runs off 32 balls with the help of three fours and one six.
New Zealand made a comeback in the game after dismissing of Virat Kohli and Lokesh Rahul in quick succession. Shreyas Iyer came to the crease with India placed in a tricky situation at 121 for 3 after 11.1 overs.
Shreyas Iyer delivered a match-winning performance for India and remained unbeaten till the end to see the side register a comfortable win. He delivered a splendid performance and smashed 58 not out off 29 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes.
Shivam Dube scored 13 runs off 9 balls with the help of one four and one six, whereas Manish Pandey scored 14 not out off 12 balls with the help of one six.
For New Zealand, Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi was the pick of the bowlers and finished with figures of 2 foe 36 in his four overs.
For his brilliant half-century, Shreyas Iyer was named man of the match.
