Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered superlative performances to see India register 34-run win over Australia in the 14th game of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 played at Kennington Oval in London.
Batting first, India managed to post a mammoth 353 runs, courtesy splendid performances from Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In reply, Australia produced a valiant batting performance and could score 316 runs from their 50 overs. With this result, India have now registered back-to-back victories in the tournament. On the other hand, Australia suffered their defeat of the World Cup.
Chasing 353 runs to win, Aaron Finch and David Warner got the side off to steady start and put on 61 runs for the opening wicket. Captain Aaron Finch looked in excellent form with the bat and scored 36 off 35 balls with the help of three boundaries. Kedar Jadhav produced a superb piece of fielding to see Finch get run-out in the 13th over of the innings.
Steve Smith came to the crease and formed a solid partnership with David Warner to keep the scoreboard ticking for Australia. David Warner notched up yet another century and looked well set at the crease. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal got rid of Warner to see Australia lose their second wicket in the 25th over of the innings. Left-hander scored 56 off 84 balls with the help of five fours in his innings.
Smith continued to play positively and kept the scoreboard ticking for Australia. He added 69 runs with Usman Khuwaja to see Australia placed in a good position to win the game. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav kept the Australian batsmen in check in the middle phase of the innings.
Pace bowler Jaspreet Bumrah cleaned up Usman Khuwaja, who was trying to play an extravagant shot on the leg side. Glenn Maxwell came to the crease and smashed three boundaries off Bumrah to see Australia needing another 118 runs off 60 balls to win.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar came into the attack and dismissed Smith right in front with incoming delivery. Marcus Stoinis also looked clueless as Kumar produced another terrific delivery to see Australia lose two wickets in space of few deliveries.
Wicket-keeper Alex Carey late blitz helped Australia take the game down to the wire. Left-hander scored 55 not out off 35 balls with the help of five fours and a six. The lower-order showed no resistance as Bumrah and Kumar picked up wickets to see India win the game by 34 runs.

Earlier in the day, India won the toss and decided to bat first on a placid pitch at The Oval. India premier players came to the party in this contest. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc produced probing spell with the new-ball to see India score 22 runs from their first seven overs. Once the likes of Nathan Coulter-Nile and Marcus Stoinis came into the attack, opening pair decided to shift gears and scored 89 runs off the next 13 overs to see momentum shift in favor of India.
After perishing for a low score against South Africa, Shikhar Dhawan made a terrific comeback and smashed a splendid century to see India post a competitive total on the board. The South paw smashed 117 runs off 109 balls with the help of sixteen boundaries. He put on a 127-run partnership with Rohit Sharma to lay down foundation for the likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya to play their natural game.
Rohit Sharma played well and scored 57 off 70 balls with the help of three fours and a six. Indian Captain Virat Kohli came to the crease and added 93 runs with Dhawan to see India placed in a strong position to post a big score on the board.
Mitchell Starc dismissed Shikhar Dhawan in the 37th over to see India lose their second wicket. Hardik Pandya was promoted to no.4 in the batting lineup in order to up the ante in the later stage of the innings. Despite being dropped early in this innings, Pandya launched an onslaught against Australian bowlers and smashed a fiery 48 off 27 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes.
Kohli also joined and produced a couple of boundaries to see India bring up their 300 in the 46th over of the innings. Indian Captain played exceedingly well and scored 82 runs off 77 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. Wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni and Lokesh Rahul also scored crucial cameos as India registered their highest score against Australia in a World Cup game.
For Australia, Pat Cummins and Nathan Coulter-Nile bowled well and picked up a wicket apiece. The rest of the bowling attack conceded more than seven runs an over.
