An impressive century from Rohit Sharma followed by fantastic bowling by Jaspreet Bumrah was enough for India to beat Bangladesh by 28 runs in the 40th game of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 played at Birmingham.
The day started as Indian Captain Virat Kohli who won the toss and opted to bat first.His decision seemed a correct one in the beginning when Rohit Sharma and Lokesh Rahul got the side off to a flying start. The duo added 180-run partnership to lay ideal foundation for the likes of Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni to play their natural game.
However, Bangladesh pulled things back and picked up wickets at regular intervals to restrict India to 314 for 9 in 50 overs.
Rohit Sharma finished the innings with the top score of 104 off 92 with the help of seven boundaries and five sixes, whereas Rahul also made a notable contribution by scoring 77 off 92 balls with the help of six fours and a six.
For Bangladesh, left-arm quick Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed five wickets, whereas pacer Rubel Hossain and left-arm orthodox spinner picked one wicket each.
Chasing 315 runs to win, Bangladesh got off to steady start as the opening pair of Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar added 39 runs in the first 10 overs. Mohammad Shami dismissed Iqbal, who once failed to produce a get a big score in this game.
Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das failed to capitalize on their good starts and perished to see Bangladesh in spot of bother at 179 for 6 after 33.5 overs. Shakib Al Hasan was the standout performer in the batting department and scored 66 off 74 balls with the help of six boundaries.
Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin fought valiantly till the end it wasn’t enough as Bangladesh were bundled out for 286 runs in 48 overs.
For India, Jaspreet Bumrah claimed four wickets in the game while Hardik Pandya also picked up three wickets.For his outstanding batting performance, Rohit Sharma was awarded man of the match.
