The eliminator provided a class between red hot Peshawar Zalmi and the underdogs Islamabad United to decide who meets Quetta Gladiators in the finals of the inaugural Pakistan Super League.
Shahid Afridi, skipper of Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and put United in to bat first on a good batting deck.Islamabad United got off to breezy start due to Sharjeel Khan who managed to provide tremendous batting onslaught against a class quality attack comprising of Shaun Tait,Shahid Afridi and Wahab Riaz.
Sharjeel innings was a blend of aggression and sensible stroke play as he played according to the situation. He brought his century in an all important encounter in the eliminator.
The hundred by Sharjeel was the first one for the inaugural Pakistan Super League.He was perfectly supported by Dwayne Smith who struggled to find form and rhythm to get going in his innings.
Islamabad United made a total of 176 runs after 20 overs courtesy of a telling contribution made by Sharjeel khan who scored a sublime hundred.
In response,Peshawar Zalmi had a timid start to their innings as Dawid Malan got dismissed by Samuel Badree in the fourth over of the innings.
Kamran Akmal made 45 runs off 32 runs as he played some exquisite shots to revive teams innings to chase down a big score.
Another star of the show out of nowhere was left arm spinner Imran Khalid as he took out Akmal and Hafeez in consecutive overs.Later he dislodged dangerous hitters like Hodge and Sammy to put a dent to Zalmi’s hopes as he finished with figures of 4 wickets for 20 runs.
Peshawar Zalmi were reeling at 80 for 5 as Afridi momentarily provided glimpses of hope of doing the unthinkable.The valiant effort of Boom Boom could not save the day for Zalmi as he was caught off the bowling of All-rounder Andre Russell.
The Islamabad United will be confident of their chances to win the coveted prize after managing to beat such a hot-favorite like Peshawar Zalmi.
So it is all setup for all wonderful finale as Misbah-ul-Haq will be keen put his team on the podium against the Quetta Gladiators
