Clinical performances from Umaid Asif, Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan were enough to see Karachi register a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars in the 26th match of 2020 Pakistan Super League.
Skipper Imad Wasim won all important toss for Karachi Kings and opted to bowl first. Lahore Qalandars got off to a decent start, courtesy 49-run partnership with Fakhar Zaman and Captain Sohail Akhtar. Zaman was the first to be dismissed as he was dismissed in the sixth over. Left-hander scored 17 runs off 13 balls with the help of three boundaries.
Medium-pacers Arshad Iqbal and Umaid Asif put in tidy performances for Karachi in the middle overs to reduce Lahore Qalandars to 108 for 4 after 14.1 overs.
Captain Sohail Akhtar was the only batsmen who adjusted well to the conditions. He finished the innings with the top-score of 68 runs off 49 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes.
All-rounder Mohammad Hafeez produced a crucial innings of 35 runs off 22 balls to help Lahore Qalandars post 150 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs.
For Karachi, Umaid Asif and Arshad Iqbal bowled well and claimed two wickets each. Chris Jordan also continued his excellent form and finished with 1 for 24 in his four overs.
Chasing 151 runs, openers Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan got the side off to a perfect start. Qalandars failed to make crucial breakthroughs with the new-ball. Sharjeel Khan continued pick boundaries at regular intervals, while Babar also showed fluency at the crease.
Left-hander looked unstoppable at the crease and smashed unbeaten 74 runs off 59 balls with the help of 5 fours and 5 sixes. He put on an unbeaten 151-run partnership to see Kings complete the chase in the 17th over of the innings. Babar Azam notched up his third half-century of the season and remained unbeaten till the end. He scored 69 not out off 46 balls with the help of eight four and one six.
For his blistering 74 runs, Sharjeel Khan was named player of the match.
