Clinical bowling performances from Scott Kuggeleijn, Mark Deyal and Roston Chase saw St. Lucia Zouks setup a comfortable win over Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2nd semifinal of Caribbean Premier League played at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
The day started with St. Lucia Zouks winning the all-important toss and opting to field first on a slow pitch. The decision proved to be a good one as pacer Scott Kuggeleijn dismissed Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer dismissed in the first very of the game.
Nicholas Pooran failed to capitalize on his good start and perished against the spin of Muhammad Nabi. Part-time spinner Roston Chase dismissed Ross Taylor and Keemo Paul to see Guyana lose half their side with just 32 runs on the board.
The side lost wickets at regular intervals to get dismissed for just 55 runs, which is the lowest score for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the history of Caribbean Premier League.
For St. Lucia Zouks, Scott Kuggeleijn, Mark Deyal, Zahir Khan and Roston Chase claimed two wickets apiece.
For Guyana Amazon Warriors, opener Chandrapaul Hemraj top-scored with 25 runs off 26 balls with the help of one four. Besides Hemraj, Nicholas Pooran and captain Chris Green were the only two batsmen to reach double digits in the innings for Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Chasing 56 runs was always an easy task as openers Rahkeem Cornwall and Mark Deyal put on a unbeaten stand to see St. Lucia Zouks to complete the chase in the 4th over of the innings.
For St. Lucia Zouks, Rahkeem Cornwall played well and finished unbeaten till the end. He scored 32 not out off 17 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. He was well supported by Mark Deyal, who chipped in with 19 not out off 10 balls with the help of three fours and one six.
For his outstanding all-rounder performance, Mark Deyal was named player of the match. St. Lucia Zouks will face Trinbago Knight Riders in the finals of Caribbean Premier League on Thuesday.
