Australia is scheduled to tour South Africa in the month of February and March to play three T20Is and three ODIs. Aaron Finch and co. will commence their tour with three-match T20I series. The opening game of the series will be played at The Wanderers in Johannesburg on 21st February on Friday. The remaining games will be played at Port Elizabeth and Cape Town on 23rd and 26th February respectively.
Australia will be looking to continue their impressive run in the T20 format. Since Jan 2019, Australia won all their games in the T20 format. Aaron Finch-led unit completed whitewash over India and Sri Lanka. The side also managed to beat Pakistan by 2-0 margin in a three-match series played in Australia last year.
On the other hand, South Africa lost the three-match series against England and will be keen to make a strong comeback in this series. Quinton de Kock, Beuran Hendricks and Tabraiz Shamsi did exceedingly well for the side in the three-match series. Heinrich Klaasen certainly made a big impact in his only T20I game played at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
It is expected that Faf du Plessis, Kagiso Rabada and Aiden Markram will be available for selection for Australia series. Dale Steyn will need to improve as he was not at his best with the ball. South African bowlers will need to make better plans as they conceded a lot of runs at back end of the innings.
On the other hand, Australia have announced their squad for three-match T20I series. Aaron Finch will lead the side for the series, while Alex Carey and Pat Cummins will be vice-captains for the contest.
All-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the series due to elbow injury. D’Arcy Short has been named as a replacement for Maxwell for the three-match series.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on the in-form top-order trio of David Warner, Aaron Finch and Steven Smith to deliver the bulk of the runs. Since August 2019, Warner has topped the batting charts for Australia in the T20 format. Left-hander has accumulated 287 runs in 6 innings at a strike rate of 145.68. He scored one century and two half-centuries during this period.
Mitchell Starc Sean Abbott, Kane Richardson and Pat Cummins are four premier pace options for this series. Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa are prominent spinners picked for this series. Since Jan 2019, Cummins has been leading wicket-taker for Australia in the T20 cricket. He has claimed 9 wickets at an economy rate of 6.61. Kane Richardson and Mitchell Starc have also done well for Australia in the T20 format.
The culmination of three-match T20I series will then see Australia take on South Africa in three match one-day series. The opening game of the one-day series will be played at Boland Park in Paarl on 29th February. The second game of the one-day series will be played at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on 4th March on Wednesday.
The third and final game of the one-day series will be played at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on 7th March on Saturday. The schedule and fixtures for South Africa vs Australia 2020 series is mentioned below
