South Africa is all set to take on India in a three-match one-day series that is slated to begin from 12th March. The matches will be played at three venues- Dharamshala, Lucknow and Kolkata.
For India, Virat Kohli will lead the side for this three-match one-day series. Opener Rohit Sharma is set to miss this series due to injury sustained on the tour of New Zealand. Home side will be keen to make a strong comeback after suffering a 3-0 whitewash in New Zealand.
India announced their 15-member squad for limited-overs series against South Africa. All-rounder Hardik Pandya and medium-pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar make their return to the setup for this home series. Mayank Agarwal has been dropped from the side, while Shubham Gill has been included as reserve opener for three-match series.
Shikhar Dhawan has recovered from shoulder injury and is expected to open the innings with Lokesh Rahul for this one-day series.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul and Virat Kohli to deliver the bulk of the runs. Interestingly, Lokesh Rahul has topped the batting charts for the side in limited-overs cricket since September 2019. He has accumulated 535 runs in 9 innings at an average of 66.87 with two centuries and three half-centuries to his name.
Indian Captain Virat Kohli has failed to convert his fifties into hundreds. Since September 2019, Kohli has scored 347 runs at an average of 38.55 with four half-centuries to their name.
Shreyas Iyer has turned out to be a bankable performer for the side in limited-overs cricket. In nine matches, Iyer has scored 402 runs at an average of 50.25 with one century and four half-centuries to his name.
Rookie opener Prithvi Shaw failed to make impression for India in limited-overs series against New Zealand.
In the bowling department, the side will be depending on the pace trio of Jaspreet Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Kuldeep Yadav to make crucial breakthroughs.
Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravendra Jadeja, Navdeep Saini are other front-line bowling options for India for this ODI series.
On the other hand, South Africa have named opener Janneman Malan and uncapped spin all-rounder George Linde for this three-match ODI series. Left-arm chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi will be unavailable for this series due to personal reasons.
Faf du Plessis, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen are included in the limited-overs squad for India series.
In the batting department, the side will be depending on Quinton de Kock to lead the way with the bat. Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen are other experienced players, who will need to contribute with the bat in this one-day series.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying on Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje to make early inroads with the new-ball. With 12 wickets in just three matches, Lungi Ngidi has topped the batting charts in white-ball cricket this season.
JJ Smuts and George Linde are two spin options for the side, while Andile Phehlukwayo, Lutho Sipamla and Beuran Hendricks are the other pace options available for South Africa for this three-match series.
South Africa will take heart from the fact that they won one-day series in India in 2015. In the last seven matches played between the two teams, India have managed to come out on top on six occasions.
