West Indies is all set tour England in the month of July to play three-match Test series. This is going to be the first international cricketing event since Australia only one-day match against New Zealand in March due to Coronavirus Pandemic.
England and Wales Cricket Board have made adequate arrangements for Test series to be played in a bio-secure environment. Jason Holder’s West Indies will be keen to adjust to the conditions and get adequate practice before the start of first Test match.
Uncapped pacer Chemar Holder and batsman Nkrumah Bonner have received their maiden call-ups to the national side. Chemar Holder has been a consistent performer with the ball in the four-day Championship played in the Caribbean. He will be looking to make an impact with the ball in his first trip to the UK.
Raymon Reifer and Jermaine Blackwood have been named as replacements for Darren Bravo and Shimron Hetymer for the three-match Test series. Experienced players like Darren Bravo and Shimron Hetymer have opted to not to tour England due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on the likes of Shai Hope, Roston Chase and Kraigg Brathwaite to make notable scores in this three-match Test series.
Since Jan 2018, Shai Hope has struggled to put in decent scores for the side in the Test format. In 14 Test matches, Hope has only scored 502 runs at an average of 20.08 with two half-centuries to his name.
Surprisingly, Wicket-keeper batsman Shane Dowrich has topped the batting charts for the side in red-ball cricket. He has accumulated 720 runs in 13 matches at an average of 40.00, which includes two centuries and three half-centuries to his name.
Captain Jason Holder has led the way with the bat as well. In 11 matches played since Jan 2018, Holder has scored 680 runs at an average of 42.50 with one century and two half-centuries to his name.
On the bowling front, the side will be relying on the likes of Kemar Roach, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph to make crucial breakthroughs with the new-ball. In 11 matches, Jason Holder claimed 53 wickets at an average of 14.22.
On the other hand, Host England have yet to name their Test squad for three-match series. Ben Stokes might be named interim captain and will lead the side for the opening Test at Southampton.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on the likes of Ben Stokes, Dominic Sibley and Ollie Pope to do the bulk of the scoring. Since Jan 2018, All-rounder Ben Stokes has accumulated 1627 runs in 24 matches at an average of 37.83 with three centuries and nine half-centuries to his name.
The opening game of the three-match Test series is going to be played at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The second and third game of the Test series is going to be played at Old Trafford at Manchester.
