Delhi Daredevils decimated Rising Pune Supergiants by 97 runs in the ninth game of the Indian Premier League at Pune on Tuesday. Sanju Samson made a scorching maiden ton to help Delhi register a mammoth total of 205 runs from 20 overs while the bowlers backed it up with clinical performance to bundle Rising Pune for 108 runs in 16.1 overs.
Samson came into this game with only five half centuries in 53 games played in the Indian Premier League. Rising Pune won the toss and opted to bowl first. Delhi Daredevils got off to shaky start as Aditya Tare was dismissed in second over of the innings. Sam Billings scored 24 runs off 17 balls and add 69 runs with Samson to lay down a solid foundation for others to tee off in the latter half of the innings. Rishabh Pant and Chris Morris played quick-fire cameos to provide adequate support to Samson at the other end. Sanju Samson scored 102 runs off 63 balls and smashed five sixes in his innings. Imran Tahir bowled well in this game as well while Adam Zampa was under the hammer as he conceded 45 runs in his four-over spell.
Rising Pune were without skipper Steven Smith as Faf du Plessis came into the lineup. Ajinkya Rahane, Faf du Plessis and Ben Stokes perished for low scores to see the side having no chance of staging a fightback in the game. With the half the side back in hut with 54 runs on the board writing was on the wall for Pune. MS Dhoni scored 11 runs and once again failed to make an impression on the game.Amit Mishra and Zaheer Khan picked up three wickets apiece while Pat Cummins continued his impressive run by bowling at searing pace.
Rising Pune Supergiant find themselves in similar fashion much like last season lingering at the bottom of the table while Delhi Daredevils will be relieved to get their first win of the competition in convincing fashion.
