Roots hits career-best 254 runs as England dominate Pakistan on Day 2 of the Second Test at Manchester

England resumed the day with 314 runs on the board with loss of four wickets on Day 2 of the second test at Manchester.Joe Root and Chris Woakes did put on a 103 run partnership to take the away from Pakistan who yet again produced an average performance in the early morning session.Joe Root piled on the runs as he notched his second double century off 351 balls to a boisterous crowd at Manchester cheering his name.He was attacking and aggressive against leg spinner Yasir Shah as he reverse swept him to bring up his 200 runs.Woakes on the other hand is having a dream run with both bat and ball as he notched up a crucial half century before he was dismissed for 58 runs off 104 balls by leggie Yasir Shah.Ben Stokes did make a composed 34 runs off 51 balls before left arm pacer Wahab Riaz dismissed him.Jonny Bairstow kept his good form going as he notched up another half century to put on 106 run partnership off 20 overs to see England bring up 500 runs on the board.Joe Root was dismissed for 254 runs by left arm pacer Wahab Riaz to see England declare at 589 for 8 after 152 overs.

Pakistan started poorly as Mohammad Hafeez offered a nothing of shot to be edge the ball to slips off the bowling of medium pacer Chris Woakes.Azhar Ali looked in wretched form as he ballooned the ball back to the bowler as he was caught and bowled by Woakes to take his second wicket.Younis Khan has looked bad at the crease as he managed get an edge down the leg side to the Keeper to see Ben Stokes take his wickets after coming back from an injury.Rahat Ali came as a night watchman and was dismissed by Woakes to end Pakistan reeling at 57 for 4 at the end of Day 2 of the second Test played at Manchester.
