Misbah-ul-Haq-led unit register eight-wicket win on Sunday
Luke Ronchi’s outstanding innings and Faheem Ashraf’s brilliant spell was enough for Islamabad United to register a comfortable eight-wicket win over Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Sharjah on Sunday. The defeat also broke Kings’ unbeaten run in the tournament.
The day started with Islamabad United captain Misbah-ul-Haq winning the toss and opting to bowl first. His decision proved correct one in the beginning as Kings only managed to put 49 runs in first 10 overs. However, a much better show in the second-half was enough for Imad Wasim-led unit to post 153-6 in their 20 overs.
Young Babar Azam finished the innings with the top score of 55 off 53 with the help of three fours and two sixes, whereas opener Khurram Manzoor scored well-crafted 51 off 41 with the help of six fours and one six.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan also played a handy cameo of unbeaten 21 off just nine balls with the help of two fours and one six. For United, all-rounder Ashraf was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed three, whereas pacer Mohammad Sami and Hussain Talat claimed a wicket each.
Chasing 154 was supposed to be a tough deal for Islamabad United, but it proved not to be, thanks to Ronchi’s heroics. The 36-year-old scored 71 off just 37 balls with the help of ten fours and three sixes and single-handedly took his side home. He was well supported by fellow opener JP Duminy, who scored 43 not out off 44 balls with the help of five fours.
Young Asif Ali, who was promoted up the order to have some time in the middle, remained not out on 26 off 16 balls with the help of three fours and one six. For Kings, pacers Mohammad Amir and Muhammad Irfan JR. claimed a wicket each. For his outstanding batting performances, Ronchi was named the player of the match.
