The twenty-ninth game in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League saw mid-table players Mumbai Indians compete against team in the last four,Rising Pune Supergiants at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium,Pune.
Mumbai Indians came out on top with a convincing eight wicket victory over Rising Pune Supergiants due to stellar performances by their bowlers and their captain Rohit Sharma who was again scored unbeaten 85 runs to help his side ease their way to win the game and register their fifth win in the Indian Premier League 2016.Rohit Sharma did produce a stellar performance as the bowlers did a wonderful job to contain Rising Pune Supergiants to score 66 runs in last overs after a tremendous start given by Saurabh Tiwary and Steven Smith.
The first ten overs for Supergiants included boundaries at a regular intervals,misfields and some dropped chances to see them placed comfortably at 92 runs for the loss of just one wicket after 9 overs concluded in their innings.Steve Smith continued his tremendous form after his maiden century in the previous game as he showed intent from the word go to score runs quickly and put bowlers under pressure.Saurabh Tiwary had a fair share of luck as he was dropped on 4 by Jasprit Bumrah off the bowling of Mitchell McClenaghan.He did make Mumbai Indians pay as he went on to score 57 runs off 45 balls to score his first half century since 2013.
Jaspreet Bumrah came on to attack and struck for Mumbai Indians as he dismissed Steven Smith to start the slide for Rising Pune.Bumrah also dismissed Saurabh Tiwary to see Mumbai bowlers apply pressure and brakes on Rising Pune’s rate of scoring as rest of the players like MS Dhoni struggled to hit big fours and sixes.
Rohit Sharma was a man on a mission as he showed aggressive approach going after length deliveries as he got away with edges on two occasions.Parthiv Patel also showed form as he struck three boundaries off fast bowler Ashok Dinda.
Rohit Sharma ended up unbeaten on 85 runs off 60 balls and hit eight fours and three sixes in his innings.He was well supported at the other end by the likes of Ambati Rayudu and Jos Butler to complete an 8 wicket win over Rising Pune Supergiants.
Mumbai Indians are slowly on the ascendancy courtesy of the performances of their captain Rohit Sharma who has led the revival through his tremendous form with the bat while Rising Pune Supergiants consigned to the bottom of the table after losing their sixth game in eight matches.
