Rishabh Pant came back to form in a roaring fashion to help Delhi pull off a steep chase of 208 runs in a game played against Gujarat Lions at Feroz Shah Kotla. Delhi looked in control while chasing a big score as Pant produced a belligerent innings of 97 runs off 43 balls to knock off the runs in style. He was perfectly aided by Sanju Samson who provided the perfect start for Delhi as the opener put on a partnership of 143 runs to help Delhi take firm control of the game and brush aside Delhi by six wickets. The hosts produced a win in a crucial win as the side will be hoping to make it to the last four of the competition after registering back-to-back wins.
Gujarat Lions bowling had no answer to the onslaught produced by Pant and Samson as they looked clueless as to how contain the two batsmen. Andrew Tye’s injury was big moment for Gujarat in the league as the Australian all-rounder was the standout bowler for the side. Basil Thampi, Pradeep Sangwan and James Faulkner all leaked runs and conceded well above 10 runs per over to see Delhi produced an excellent result in front of home crowds.
Earlier in the day, Karun Nair won the toss for Delhi and elected to bowl first. Gujarat got to a poor start as they lost two wickets for just 10 runs on the board. Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik came together for Gujarat Lions and produced a splendid partnership of 133 runs to help the side post a target in excess of 200 runs off 20 overs. Raina scored 77 runs off 43 balls while smashing four sixes in his innings. Karthik was not far behind as he produced 65 runs off 44 balls with five sixes in his innings. Aaron Finch and Ravendra Jadeja also produced brisk cameos to put Gujarat Lions in a commanding position at the half-way mark before Pant produced a spectacular innings to topple the visitors in their own backyard.
