Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant smashed half-centuries to steer Delhi Capitals to a comfortable win over Rajasthan Royals in the 40th game of the Indian Premier League played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Ajinkya Rahane splendid century was completely overshadowed by a spectacular batting performance from Delhi Capitals. With this result, Delhi Capitals have 14 points to their name in 11 matches. Rajasthan suffered their seventh defeat of the competition and are eliminated from the playoff race this season.
Chasing 192 to win, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw lay down the foundation in the chase. The duo added 72 runs for the opening wicket in the space of seven over. Dhawan looked in spectacular form and smashed two sixes and eight fours to notch up his fourth half-century of the season. He scored 54 off 27 balls before Leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal dismissed him to see Delhi lose the momentum in their innings.
Rookie Riyan Parag came into the attack and dismissed Captain Shreyas Iyer to see Delhi Capitals reduced to 77 for 2 after 8.5 overs. Shaw played a nice supporting to Dhawan and scored 45 off 39 balls with the help of four fours and a six. He added 84 runs with wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant to see Delhi Capitals close in on another victory this season.
Pant came to the crease and decided to take the attack to the bowlers. He played his shots and put pressure back on Rajasthan bowlers. He scored a breathtaking 78 not out off 36 balls with the help of six fours and four sixes. Sherfane Rutherford was dismissed for 11 to see Delhi lose their fourth wicket in the 18th over.
Rishabh Pant remained solid till end and smashed a six to see Delhi Capitals complete the chase in the final over of the innings. For Rajasthan Royals, Shreyas Gopal conceded 47 runs and picked two wickets in his four overs, while Parag was the most economical bowler with figures of 1 for 25 from his three overs.

Earlier in the day, Ajinkya Rahane certainly delivered a spectacular performance with the bat and scored unbeaten century off 58 balls to help Rajasthan Royal post 191 for 6 in their 20 overs.
Newly-appointed captain Steve Smith provided adequate support to Rahane at the other end as the duo added 130 runs to see Royals placed in a strong position to post a big score on the board. With this century, he became second batsman after Sanju Samson to hit a century for Rajasthan this season.
Sanju Samson was run-out in the second overs to see Rajasthan lose their first wicket. Rahane led the way with the bat and smashed a brilliant century with the help of 11 fours and three sixes. He had early reprieve as he was dropped on 16 by Ishant Sharma at short-fine leg.
Smith also chipped in with 50 off 32 balls with the help of eight boundaries. Ben Stokes and Ashton Turner failed to make an impact with the bat in this game. The Royals could only 40-odd runs in the last five overs as Delhi Capitals pulled things courtesy splendid bowling performance from Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris.
For Delhi Capitals, pace bowler Ishant Sharma bowled well and finished with figures of 1 for 29 in his four overs.
