Chennai register eight-wicket win on Sunday
Ambati Rayudu scored a stunning unbeaten century to guide Chennai Super Kings to an eight-wicket win against Sunrises Hyderabad in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Pune on Sunday.In a top-table clash, the day started with visitors captain MS Dhoni winning the toss and opting field first.
His decision paid instant dividend as dangerous opener Alex Hales departed in the fourth over at the score of 18. But a 123-run partnership for the second-wicket between Shikhar Dhawan and captain Kane Williamson put Hyderabad on course for a score close to 200. However, once Dhawan departed in the 16th over, Chennai made a grand comeback and restricted the home side to 179 for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
The star of the show for Hyderabad was opener Dhawan, who scored 79 off 49 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes. He was well supported by captain Williamson, who scored 51 off 39 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes. For Chennai, right-arm pacer Shardul Thakur claimed two, whereas Deepak Chahar and Dwayne Bravo claimed a wicket each.
In reply, the visiting side had an outstanding start, courtesy 134-run opening partnership between Rayudu and all-rounder Shane Watson, which helped the Dhoni-led side in registering an easy eight-wicket win with one over to spare. Rayudu remained not out on 100 off 62 balls with the help of seven fours and seven sixes, whereas Watson scored 57 off 35 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. For the home side, pacer Sandeep Sharma was the only successful bowler on the day as he claimed figures of one for 36 in his four overs.
For his outstanding knock, Ambati Rayudu was named the player of the match.
