Rahul Tripathi stars in Pune’s win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens

Rahul Tripathi once again led the way with the bat to help Pune to overcome Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets in a game played at Eden Gardens in Indian Premier League 2017. Pune managed to win the game comfortably while chasing down a score of 156 runs posted by Kolkata who batted first on the surface.

Tripathi smoked seven sixes in his innings to score 93 runs off 52 balls as youngster held the innings together for Pune to steer to yet another important win in the competition. Rising Pune are now third after their win over Kolkata while Knight Riders are still second despite conceding a defeat in this game. Ajinkya Rahane went early as Pune got off to bad start. Nathan Coulter-Nile bowled a probing spell upfront but Tripathi went on the charge against Coulter-Nile to smash him for two fours and one six in one over to provide impetus to the innings.

Chris Woakes came into the attack and got rid of Captain Steven Smith and Manoj Tiwary in not time but Tripathi looked unfazed by the events as he continued to press with regular boundaries and taking singles to maintain a good rate of scoring for Pune. Kuldeep Yadav also was smoked for three sixes by Tripathi as Kolkata bowling lineup looked out of sorts after the onslaught produced by youngsters playing for Pune. He added 43 runs with Ben Stokes to put an inch close to victory.  Rahul Tripathi fell seven shorts of what could have been a special maiden ton as Dan Christian struck a six in the last over of the innings to see Pune notch up a win at Eden Gardens.

Earlier, Pune won the toss and elected to bowl first. Surya Kumar Yadav replaced injured Robin Uthappa for this game. Jaydev Unadkat made early inroads as Sunil Narine was dismissed for a duck. Washington Sundar also was among wickets as he dismissed Sheldon Jackson and Gautam Gambhir to see Kolkata slump to 40 for 3 in 5.5 overs. Manish Pandey, Colin de Grandhomme and Surya Kumar Yadav chipped in with 30s to help Kolkata register 156 runs off 20 overs. Jaydev Unadkat and Ben Stokes were the pick of the bowlers for Rising Pune in this game.
