Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side register six-wicket win over Islamabad United in Sharjah on Wednesday
Kevin Pietersen produced a brilliant knock after an outstanding bowling performance to help Quetta Gladiators outclass Islamabad United in a six-wicket victory in the ninth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Sharjah on Wednesday.
The day started with Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed winning the toss and opting to bowl first. His decision proved a correct one as first two edition’s runners up put an outstanding show in the field and restricted their opposition to just 134 for the loss of seven wickets.
Opener Luke Ronchi got Islamabad United off to a decent start and scored 43 runs in just 26 balls. He smashed six fours and a six in his innings. Islamabad United Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Faheem Ashraf also chipped in with crucial contributions to see the side get 130-odd runs in their 20 overs.
The bowlers did a splendid job for Quetta Gladiators to restrict Islamabad United to a modest total.In reply, Gladiators never really looked in trouble and easily got over the line with 17 balls to spare. The star of the show was veteran right-handed batsman Kevin Pietersen, who scored a brilliant 48 off 34 with the help of four fours and three sixes.
He was well supported by all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz, who scored an unbeaten 25 off 31. For United, English pacer Steven Finn was the most successful bowler, as he claimed three wickets and gave away 35 runs in his four overs.
