Peshawar Zalmi were lucky to escape with a win over Islamabad United via DLS method in the 20th game of 2020 Pakistan Super League played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. With this result, Peshawar registered their fourth win of the competition.
Peshawar Zalmi Skipper Wahab Riaz won the toss and elected to bowl first in overcast conditions. Rahat Ali provided early breakthrough and got rid of in-form opening batsman Luke Ronchi in the opening over of the innings. Colin Munro played positive cricket from the start and picked up boundaries at regular intervals.
Rizwan Hussain perished for a low score to see Islamabad United lose their second wicket with 41 runs on the board. Captain Shadab Khan came to the crease and put on a 77-run partnership to see Islamabad United score their runs at a brisk rate.
Pugnacious opener Colin Munro scored a splendid half-century off 35 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Captain Shadab Khan started his innings in an aggressive manner and decided to take the attack to Peshawar bowlers. He added 76-run partnership with Colin Ingram to help Islamabad United post 195 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
For United, Shadab Khan led from the front with the bad and finished the innings with the top- score of 77 runs off 42 balls with the help of five fours and four sixes. He was provided adequate support by Colin Ingram, who chipped in with 41 runs off 25 balls with the help of one four and two sixes.
For Peshawar, pacer Hasan Ali was the standout bowler for the side and finished with 2 for 36 in his four overs. Rahat Al, Carlos Brathwaite and Wahab Riaz claimed one wicket each.
Chasing 196 runs for victory, Peshawar Zalmi got off to an excellent start, courtesy 44-run opening-wicket partnership between Imam-ul-Haq and Kamran Akmal. Wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal produced a much-needed knock of 37 runs off 21 balls with the help of four boundaries and one six.
Tom Banton and Haider put on an unbeaten partnership to keep Peshawar Zalmi ahead of required run-rate according to Duckworth-Lewis method. With Peshawar Zalmi placed comfortably at 85 for 2 after 9 overs, heavy rains lashed across the venue to see the game end in favor Peshawar, who won the game by 7 runs via DLS method.
For his splendid 77 runs in a losing cause, Shadab Khan was declared player of the match.
