Parthiv Patel’s 80 helps Mumbai Indians win against Kings XI Punjab by 25 runs

Mumbai Indians notched up a much needed win when they came up against a beleaguered Kings XI Punjab at IS Bindra Stadium,Mohali in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League.David Miller won the toss for Kings XI Punjab and elected to field first on a good surface prepared for the game.

Parthiv Patel put in a performance at the right time as he turned out to be the star of this game despite having made 70 odd runs form last five games with Mumbai Indians consigned to the bottom of table in the league.The pressure was on him as other players like Martin Guptill and Unmukt Chand were potential options to replace him if he failed to make an impression in this game.

However,things went in the favor of Parthiv Patel as he went on to make his highest score of 81 runs off 58 balls despite surviving fair amount of chances created by Kings XI Punjab.He found support with Ambati Rayudu who played a solid knock to score 65 runs off 37 balls.He struck four fours and four sixes to share over 130 run partnership with Parthiv Patel to steer his side to score 189 runs after 20 overs.

Kings XI Punjab suffered an early setback in their reply to the score posted by Mumbai Indians as both the openers Murali Vijay and Manan Vohra went cheaply without making any notable contributions.Though Shaun Marsh and Glenn Maxwell did put on a 89 run partnership to keep them in the hunt till the 14th over.Shaun Marsh once again fell short of scoring a half century while Glenn Maxwell scored a half century off 33 balls to lead Kings XI Punjab revival in the game.The game turned when Marsh and Maxwell departed in quick succession leaving it all for David Miller to do the work to steer his side to victory.David Miller did play well for his 30 runs off 17 balls but found no support at the other end as Mumbai Indians won the game by 25 runs.

Mumbai Indians seamers Mitchell McClenaghan and Jaspreet Bumrah were exceptional on the night as they bowled tidy spells to share five wickets between them to give their team much needed win after a string of losses in the Indian Premier League 2o16.
