It was proud moment for Pakistan as test captain Misbah-ul-Haq was awarded with ICC Test Championship mace for being ranked No. 1 side in the world after leveling the series in England. Misbah received the ICC Test mace at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore presented by ICC Chief Executive Dave Richardson.
Pakistan side deserved to be bestowed with such an honor as the side has been playing all their games away from home from the last seven years. The sides adopted home in UAE has become their fortress in the last five years as they not have lost a series under the captaincy of Misbah-ul-Haq. Pakistan Test Captain Misbah-ul-Haq said that it was ideal place for him to receive the coveted prize at Lahore where he last played an international game seven years ago. He said that it is great achievement and testament to the efforts and hard work put in by all the players in this journey to make Pakistan reached the top of cricketing world in test cricket. It is even a bigger achievement as the side that has played all their games away from home.
Pakistan have become only the fifth side after England,Australia,India and South Africa to conferred with ICC Test Championship mace for being ranked top side in the world. Misbah-ul-Haq joins an illustrious league of captains to hold the mace alongside names like Ricky Ponting, Graeme Smith and Michael Clarke. India does have a great opportunity to take the top spot from Pakistan if they win the series against New Zealand at home. Pakistan is also set to play three test match series against West Indies in the month of October.
The side that will be at the top of rankings on April 2017 will be awarded a cash prize of one million dollars while second place team will get $500,000.
