Pakistan Cricket Board has offered the role of assistant coach to former Pakistani all-rounder Azhar Mahmood that might see him joining the Pakistan Squad on their tour to England that starts from 14th July. Shaharyar Khan, Chairman of PCB clearly stated Azhar Mahmood has been approached by the board for the position that also includes the role of bowling coach for Pakistan Cricket Team. He said that Azhar Mahmood has agreed for the coaching stint but needs to fulfill all the legalities to be with Pakistan side in England. Mickey Arthur was also involved in the process of selecting Azhar Mahmood who seemed most apt for the role of assistant coach for Pakistan Cricket.
Shaharyar Khan also said Head Coach Mickey Arthur did elucidate that he needed the services of an assistant coach with him in order to better understand cricketing culture of Pakistan and ensure there is clarity in communication with the players in the team. Former Pakistani Leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed was also in the reckoning for the given position but he could not perform dual roles as he was earlier appointed in the National Cricket Academy.Muddasar Nazar who was appointed as new director of academics will also take his position from 15TH June.
Azhar Mahmood did perform a short stint with the side for the WorldT20 in India as a bowling consultant where Pakistan failed miserably and lost three games to the likes of India, Australia and New Zealand. Azhar Mahmood also gave his views on the debacle of WorldT20 and cited unprofessional attitude in the Pakistan side as main reasons of poor performance.
