Pakistan Cricket Board appoints Sarfaraz Ahmed as new T20 captain of Pakistan

Pakistan Cricket Board have taken measures to overcome failures in WorldT20 2016 and appointed Sarfaraz Ahmed as the new T20 captain of Pakistan Team.His appointment comes as no surprise as Shahid Afridi decided to step down from the role of captaincy following team’s poor performance in WorldT20 2016 held in India.

Sarfaraz Ahmed speaking to the media said that he feels honored and privileged to become the captain of Pakistan Cricket Team and will try his best to get the team to produce better results.He said that captaincy role will be a test of his abilities but will try to make sure he performs and excels in the opportunity given to him by Pakistan Cricket Board.

There has been speculation as to who will be appointed as Pakistan’s new T20 captain given criticism surrounding Shahid Afridi and Head coach Waqar Younis facing a lot of flak from the media and general public after WorldT20 debacle.The team performed poorly in the Asia Cup and WorldT20 that has led to such a wholesale changes being taken place this week.

Waqar Younis,Head coach of Pakistan team did submit a report on recently concluded WorldT20 2016 that included analysis on Pakistan team’s performance and primarily blamed Shahid Afridi for his poor leadership skills and lack of strong acumen that led to such performances since his appointment as captain of the side.His opinion was shared by team manager of Pakistan Cricket Team Intikhab Alam who said Afridi was below par in terms of his captaincy on and off the field.

Sarfaraz Ahmed has scored 291 runs at an average of 29.1 with two fifties in his 21 appearances in T20 format.He was the guy who led the Under 19 team to win the World Cup in 2006 against arch-rivals India.He is the only player who is a regular across all the three formats and deserved his appointment as new captain of the Pakistan side.

He did show his tremendous captaincy skills in the inaugural Pakistan Super League taking Quetta Gladiators into the finals and showing strong credentials as a leader.He will make his debut as the new skipper for the T20 side when Pakistan will meet England at Manchester,Old Trafford in a one-off game.The next home series for Pakistan team will be against West indies where two T20 matches are scheduled to played between the sides,.
