New Zealand will look to turn their fortunes around when they take on Pakistan in the opening game of the one-day series on Wednesday.
In the T20I series, Pakistan completely dominated the proceedings against New Zealand to complete a 3-0 clean sweep. Kane Williamson and co. will be desperate to start well in this one-day series and get back to winning ways.
In the batting department, New Zealand will be relying on Captain Kane Williamson, who so far has scored 440 runs in 10 matches at an average of 55.00, and middle-order batsman Ross Taylor who has topped the batting charts so far this year with 473 runs at an average of 78.83.
New Zealand opening batsman Tom Latham will get an opportunity to redeem himself in the one-day series after managing to score just 230 runs in ten matches at an average of 25.55.
In the bowling department, left-arm pacer Trent Boult, who is New Zealand’s leading wicket-taker so far this year with 18 scalps in 9 matches at an average of 24.55. Lockie Ferguson has been impressive so far in his limited-overs career. The spin duo of Ajaz Patel and Ish Sodhi will play this opening game of three-match one-day series.
The opening game of three-match one-day series will be played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi and is scheduled to start at 11:00 GMT.
On the other hand, Pakistan have been poor in limited-overs cricket after reaching new heights by winning the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy in England last year. Sarfaraz Ahmed and co. suffered a 5-0 whitewash against New Zealand in a one-day series played earlier this year. The focus will certainly be to turn things around in white-ball cricket.
In the batting department, Pakistan will be depending on opener Fakhar Zaman, who has topped the batting charts for Pakistan for the current year. He has scored 721 runs in 14 matches at an average of 72.10 with two centuries.
In the bowling department, the team will be certainly depending on the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali to provide breakthroughs with new-ball. Shadab Khan has been excellent for Pakistan in the middle overs of the innings.
Pakistan have decent options with the ball as medium-pacer Faheem Ashraf and off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez have the ability to pick up crucial wickets for Pakistan.
