Mumbai Indians finish top of the table in the league with a nine-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders

Mumbai Indians finished top of the table with 20 points after winning their game in round-robin stages of Indian Premier League against Kolkata Knight Riders played at Eden Gardens. Mumbai bowled superbly well in the last passage of play to eke out a nine-run win over Kolkata. The hosts lost wickets at regular intervals to end up losing their last game before the playoffs begin in three days’ time.

Manish Pandey and Colin de Grandhomme put up a fight with the bat as they kept the hosts in the game till the end. Mumbai also achieved a historic of winning their 100th game in the Indian Premier League and also winning their first game at Eden Gardens. Both the teams have qualified for the playoffs along with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rising Pune will battle it out against Kings XI for the final spot of the playoffs.

Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine failed this time in the chase as Mumbai made early inroads in the innings. Tim Southee got Narine for a duck while Lynn produced a brisk 14-ball 26 runs but failed to capitalize on the good starts. Gautam Gambhir also got a good start and fell for 21 runs dismissed by Mitchell Johnson. Robin Uthappa was dismissed by Karn Sharma to see Kolkata slump to 53 for 4 after 6.2 overs.

Manish Pandey and Colin de Grandhomme played well as they kept the scoreboard ticking along nicely. But Pandey and Grandhomme were dismissed at key moments to see Mumbai win the game by nine runs.

Earlier in the game, the match got off to late start as rain lashed across the ground. Mumbai Indians batted first as Ambati Rayudu and Saurabh Tiwary notched up half centuries to help the side reach 173 runs off 20 overs. Trent Boult, Ankit Rajpoot and Kuldeep Yadav bowled tidy spells for Kolkata in the game as they managed to restrict Mumbai under 180-run mark
