Mumbai Indians continued their imperious display with bat and ball to overcome Kings XI Punjab in 22nd game played at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore in Indian Premier League 2017. KXIP would be pretty confident of defending a score of 198 runs during the break but Mumbai looked unstoppable as Jos Buttler slayed the opposition bowlers in the Power Play overs to setup the chase for his side. Parthiv Patel also played a good supporting role to Buttler as left-handed batsman scored 37 runs off 18 balls.
Mumbai were in a commanding position at 123 for loss of one wicket after ten overs as Nitish Rana continued to press on the accelerator by picking up regular boundaries. The tempo of the innings for Mumbai never dropped as they raced to an eight wicket win over Punjab. Shaun Marsh and Marcus Stoinis replaced David Miller and Eoin Morgan while Gurkeerat Singh was brought into the side for KC Cariappa. Rana remained unbeaten for his 62 runs off 34 balls and smoked seven sixes in his innings.
Earlier, Hashim Amla and Shaun Marsh started the proceedings well to put on 46 runs for opening wicket while Marsh fell after scoring 26 runs. Amla continued to score at a good rate as he went berserk against Lasith Malinga and co. in the end overs of the innings to score his maiden T20 ton while Maxwell also supported the cause by making quick-fire 40 runs off 18 balls to see Punjab register 198 runs off 20 overs.
Mumbai are top with ten points while Kings XI find themselves in bottom half of the table with four points from six games played in the tenth edition of Indian Premier League.
