MS Dhoni produced a splendid innings with the bat to see Rising Pune Supergiant overcome Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets in the 24th game of Indian Premier League. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 61 runs while Rahul Tripathi scored 59 runs to setup the chase perfectly for Pune. The batting in the second half of the innings seemed a lot easier as Dhoni notched up his first half century of this edition of Indian Premier League.
The wicket-keeper batsman was in woeful form with the bat coming into this game but came good at a crucial moment for the franchise.Rising Pune required 29 runs off 12 balls as Dhoni belted Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 19 runs in the penultimate over to secure a morale booster win for the side. The side got off to nervy start as Ajinkya Rahane perished early in the innings but Tripathi played well as he increased his rate of scoring to form partnership of 72 runs with Steve Smith.
Tripathi continued the good work to notch up a crucial half-century to see Pune well on track to chase down the score. When Smith perished, Dhoni came out to bat ahead of Ben Stokes as he looked shaky at the start of his innings.
He kept taking singles and picked up an odd boundary till he zeroed in on Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the bowler to target as he cracked him for two fours and six in a over to bring the equation down to 11 runs off 6 balls. MS Dhoni and Manoj Tiwary were till the end to help Pune secure an important win to stay alive for the race to qualify for the playoffs of the competition.
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad registered 176 runs off 20 overs as Moises Henriques top scored with unbeaten 55 runs followed by a brisk 43 runs by David Warner.
