Melbourne Renegades end their campaign on a high with a win over Brisbane Heat

Captain Aaron Finch’s splendid half-century and Mohammad Nabi’s all-round heroics helped Melbourne Renegades beat Brisbane Heat by 7 wickets in the 56th game played at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne on Monday. With this result, Melbourne Renegades ended their horrible campaign on a winning note.

The day started with Captain Chris Lynn won the toss and opted to bat first in this final-round robin game. All-rounder Ben Cutting delivered a quick-fire cameo to see Heat get off to a decent start. All-rounder Will Sutherland dismissed Sam Heazlett and Ben Cutting to reduce Brisbane Heat to 35 for 2 after 3.4 overs.

Left-arm spinner Samit Patel dismissed AB De Villiers to see Melbourne Renegades take control of the game. With the dismissal of Chris Lynn in the eight over, Heat were placed in a tricky situation at 65 for 4.

Matt Renshaw once again led the fightback for Heat and put on a 61-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne. Left-hander played exceedingly well and finished the innings with the top-score of 65 runs off 47 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes. He was well supported by Labuschagne, who chipped in with 28 runs off 26 balls with the help of one four.

Due to splendid batting performance from Renshaw, Brisbane Heat were able to post 154 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

For Melbourne Renegades, Will Sutherland was the standout performer with the ball in hand and finished with figures of 3 for 30 in his three overs. Spin trio of Samit Patel, Mohammad Nabi and Cameron Boyce bowled well and claimed one wicket each.

All-rounder heroics from Mohammad Nabi and Aaron Finch splendid half-century was enough to see Melbourne Renegades to register a comfortable win in their final round-robin game.

In reply, Melbourne Renegades captain Aaron Finch and Tom Cooper got the side off to a flying start. Cooper perished after scoring a quick-fire 23 runs off 10 balls with the help of three fours and one six. Despite losing Cooper, Aaron Finch continued to attack the Brisbane bowlers and kept the scoreboard ticking for Renegades.

Daniel Christian and Beau Webster perished for low scores to see Renegades reduced to 68 for 3 after 9.4 overs. Aaron Finch put on an unbeaten 87-run partnership with Mohammad Nabi to lead Renegades to a comfortable win.

Captain Aaron Finch was the standout performer with the bat against Brisbane Heat and finished the innings with unbeaten 63 runs off 49 balls with the help of two fours and four sixes. He was well supported by Mohammad Nabi, who chipped in with 38 runs off 28 balls with the help of three fours and one six.

For Heat, off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman delivered a tidy performance and conceded 14 runs from his four overs.

For his brilliant half-century, Captain Aaron Finch was declared man of the match.
