Malinga shines as Sri Lanka win by 14 runs against UAE

The match was played between Sri Lanka and minnows UAE at the Shere Bangla National Stadium,Mirpur.

UAE captain Amjad Javed won the toss and put Sri Lanka to bat first on a wicket which was contrast in nature to the scenes of pitch that had a green tinge for India vs Bangladesh game previous night.

Sri Lanka openers Dinesh Chandimal and Tillakaratne Dishan got off to a start and made a first wicket stand of 69 runs. The Skipper Amjad Javed brought his team into the game as he pegged back Sri Lanka’s flow of runs with two vital wickets of Dilshan and Siriwardana. He also took wicket of  Dinesh Chandimal who threw his wicket away after scoring 50 runs. The late middle and lower order lost the plot and no one could get going which saw Sri Lanka make a below par total of 129 runs after 20 overs.

UAE response was rather meek as they lost 4 wickets inside 4 overs to provide any kind of hope of causing an upset.Though there was resistance from the middle order players like SP Patil who scored 37 runs  but Lasith Malinga was once again the star of the show for Sri Lanka as he picked up 4 wickets to take his team to a 14 run victory and help them register their first win in Asia Cup.

For UAE,it is was good display but a bridge too far for them as they have to look and improve their performance in the next games.
