The first T20 match played between Zimbabwe and India turned out to be a thriller as the host won the game by 2 runs. Malcolm Waller and Sikander Raza also put on a 47 run partnership but could go on to score big as they were dismissed in consecutive overs to see Zimbabwe placed at 98 for 4 after 13 overs. Elton Chigumbura played a brisk innings and scored 54 runs 26 balls and struck seven sixes to help his side post 170 runs after 20 overs. Jaspreet Bumrah was once again the stand out bowler for India in the innings.
In reply, Zimbabwe bowler Donald Tiripano got the crucial wicket of KL Rahul to see India placed in precarious position.Mandeep Singh got 31 runs as an opener before he was dismissed by Chamu Chibhabha. Ambati Rayudu entertained for a little while as hit struck two consecutive boundaries in the same over but fell for 19 runs to leave placed at 53 for 3 after 8 overs.Kedhar Jadhav kept the score ticking along but he also fell to a delivery from fast bowler Taurai Muzarabani.
The equation was tough one as India needed 80 runs off 46 balls with Dhoni and Manish Pandey at the crease. Pandey scored 48 runs off 35 balls and hit three sixes in his innings to led the side to chase down the target. He fell at a crucial moment just as India was gaining ascendancy in the game with 29 runs needed in last three overs. MS Dhoni kept rotating the strike while Axar Patel kept on bludgeoning the ball to parts of the country as he struck two massive sixes to bring the equation down to a level. Axar Patel fell for 19 runs trying to go for big shots in the last over as Rishi Dhawan wasted two balls to see MS Dhoni take the strike on the last ball of the innings.Madziva bowled a perfect wide yorker as MS Dhoni could only manage a single run to see hosts spark off wild celebrations after winning the game by 2 runs.
