Lokesh Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and Ravendra Jadeja delivered superlative performances to help India beat Australia by 36 runs in the 2nd game played at Rajkot on Friday. With this result, the home side managed to level the three-match one-day series.
The day started with Australian Skipper Aaron Finch winning the toss and opting to bowl first. The decision quickly backfired as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan put on 81-run partnership in the first 13 overs. Sharma failed to capitalize on his good start and perished after scoring 42 runs off 44 balls with the help of six boundaries.
Shikhar Dhawan and Indian captain Virat Kohli put on a 103-run partnership to India on course to post a mammoth score on the board. Shikhar Dhawan continued his good form in this game and fell four runs short of richly deserved century. Left-hander finished the innings with the top-score of 96 runs off 90 balls with the help of 13 fours and one six.
Lokesh came in at no.5 and decided to take the attack to the Australian bowlers. He added 74 runs with Virat Kohli to see India scoring at a brisk rate. Kohli was dismissed in the 43rd over to see India lose their fourth wicket. Indian Captain scored a fluent 78 runs off 76 balls with the help of six boundaries.
Rahul continued to play with positive intent and helped India post a mammoth 340 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Rahul delivered a scintillating innings and scored 80 runs off 52 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes.
For Australia, pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson and Pat Cummins conceded a lot of runs and failed to make breakthroughs with the new-ball. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers and finished with figures of 3 for 50 in his 10 overs.

In reply, Mohammad Shami provided early breakthrough as David Warner was dismissed in the third over of the innings. Left-hander scored 15 runs off 12 balls with the help of two boundaries.
His opening partner, Aaron Finch failed to capitalize on his good start and scored 33 runs off 48 balls with the help of three fours.
Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne led the fightback for Australia and put on 96-run partnership for the third wicket. Left-arm spinner Ravendra Jadeja got rid of Labuschagne to see Australia lose their third wicket.
Things quickly changed in favor of India once left-arm Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav came into the attack and dismissed Steven Smith and Alex Carey in a space of few deliveries. Smith fell two runs of a century and perished after scoring 98 runs off 102 balls with the help of nine fours and one six.
The lower-order fought hard for Australia but it wasn’t enough as the visitors were dismissed for 304 runs in 49.1 overs.
For India, Mohammad Shami conceded 77 runs and picked up three wickets in his ten overs. Kuldeep Yadav, Navdeep Saini and Ravendra Jadeja claimed two each.
For his belligerent 80 runs, wicket-keeper batsman Lokesh Rahul was named man of the match. The third and final game of the one-day series will be played at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
