The 50th game in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League saw Royal Challengers take on Kings XI Punjab at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Virat Kohli is another level of batsmanship as he raised the benchmark for batting in the Indian Premier League this season to produce four hundreds and accumulating over 800 runs up till now.
The rain delayed the start of the play but then when the play resumed it was all about Royal Challenger skipper Virat Kohli showing imperious form and touch to strike another century off 47 balls in reduced game with 15 overs apiece for both sides. He clobbered the opposition bowlers to all corners of the ground as he struck 12 fours and eight sixes to score 113 runs off 50 balls as Chris Gayle continued his rich form and demonstrated ruthless striking of a cricket ball to produce 73 runs off 32 balls. The opening duo of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli put on a 147 run partnership for the opening wicket. The pulsating display of both the batsmen saw flay the bowlers with regular fours and sixes to help their reach 211 runs after 20 overs.
The target of 211 from 15 overs meant that a bad start for Kings XI could mean the end of the game in the first few overs. The opening pair of Hashim Amla and Murali Vijay went early as both were dismissed by left arm seamer S Aravind. The leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also continued his good form as he bagged career best figures of 4 for 25 as Kings XI Punjab were bundled out for 120 runs as Royal Challengers Bangalore won the game by 82 runs via Duckworth-Lewis Method.
The Royal Challengers have peaked at the right moment after a scratchy start to this season of the Indian Premier League. The team led by Virat Kohli who is showing ominous signs with the bat are now serious contenders to go all the way as they are placed third in the points table in the competition.
