Kohli, De Villiers star as Royal Challengers Bangalore register first win of the season

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) delivered a clinical performance with bat and ball to best Kings XI Punjab in the 28th game of Indian Premier League played in Mohali. The spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Moeen Ali delivered superb spells to restrict Kings XI Punjab to a modest total.

In reply, Captain Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers scored half-centuries to help Royal Challengers Bangalore register their first win of the competition. With this result, Kohli and co. managed to break their six-match losing streak.

Chasing 174 runs to win, Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli got Royal Challengers Bangalore off to a flier. The duo added 43-run partnership for the opening wicket. Kings XI Punjab Captain Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Patel to see Royal Challengers Bangalore lose their first wicket.

Kohli looked in splendid form and formed a crucial partnership with AB De Villiers to help RCB take control of the game. He scored 67 runs off 53 balls with the help of eight boundaries. He was well supported by De Villiers, who scored unbeaten 59 off 38 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes.

Skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed by pace bowler Mohammad Shami in the 16th over of the innings. De Villiers added 46 runs with Marcus Stoinis to steer RCB to comfortable win over Kings XI. Stoinis also played well and scored unbeaten 28 off 16 balls with the help of four fours. He struck the winning runs to help RCB complete the chase in the final over of the innings.

De Villiers and Kohli smashed half-centuries to help Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kings XI Punjab by eight  wickets in a game played at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium.

Earlier in the day, Lokesh Rahul and Chris Gayle got Kings XI off to a brisk start. The opening pair added 66 runs to lay down foundation for the likes of Mayank Agarwal and Sarfaraz Khan to go berserk at the end. Rahul perished for 18 runs as leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal provided crucial breakthrough for RCB. On the other hand, Gayle played sensibly and anchored the innings for Kings XI.

Chahal claimed his second wicket as Mayank Agarwal was cleaned bowled in the ninth over of the innings. Gayle was particularly aggressive against the pace duo of Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj. Navdeep Saini bowled well and conceded only 23 runs from his four overs. Gayle scored unbeaten 99 off 64 balls with the help of ten fours and five sixes.

For his unbeaten half-century, AB De Villiers was named man of the match in this game.
