Kohli, Chahar shine as India register a comfortable win over South Africa

Captain Virat Kohli led from the front with the bat to see India beat South Africa by seven wickets in the second game of the T20I series played at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday.

In this game, South Africa were put into bat after Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl first.His decision proved to be a good one as South Africa were restricted to a modest score of 149 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

The star of the show for South Africa was Captain Quinton de Kock, who scored 52 off 37 balls with the help of eight boundaries. He was well supported by debutant Temba Bavuma, who chipped in with 49 off 43 balls with the help of three fours and a six. Despite being placed at a strong position at 88 for 1 after 11 overs, South Africa failed to capitalize on their good start and could only add 60-odd runs in the last nine overs.

For India, Medium-pacer Deepak Chahar put in an excellent effort with the ball and picked up two wickets in his four-over spell. Navdeep Saini, Ravendra Jadeja picked one wicket apiece.

Chasing 150 runs to win the game, Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan got the side off to a brisk. Though Sharma perished in the third over, Dhawan played well and added 61 runs with Virat Kohli to see India in a strong position to win the game.

For India, Virat Kohli was the star of the show with the bat and scored unbeaten 72 off 52 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. He was well supported by Shikhar, who chipped in with 40 off 31 balls.

Shreyas Iyer also played well and added crucial partnership with Kohli to see India complete the chase in 19th over of the innings.For South Africa, Left-arm Chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi was the star of the show with the ball and finished with figure of 19 for 1 in his three overs.

For his outstanding half- century, Virat Kohli was awarded man of the match. Both teams will now travel to Bengaluru where the final game of the T20I series will be played on Sunday.
