Kings XI Punjab held their nerves to produce a much needed win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 43rd game played in Indian Premier League at Bengaluru. The hosts Bangalore got off to worse possible start as Chris Gayle was dismissed or a duck. To make matter worse, big guns in Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers fell in a quick succession for low scores to see the side slump to 46 for 3. Mandeep Singh was standout player with the bat for Bangalore as he scored 46 runs off 40 balls to keep his side in the game. Kedhar Jadhav bad run of form continued as he taken out by Mohit Sharma.
Sandeep Sharma was the star with the ball as he dismissed Kohli and de Villiers to put his side on top in the game. Glenn Maxwell came into the attack and took the prized scalp of Mandeep to see Royal Challengers chances of winning suffer a big blow as the side got bundled out for 119 runs in 19 overs. Axar Patel also took three wickets to clean up the lower order.
Earlier, Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl first. His bowlers did a commendable job as they restricted Kings XI Punjab to a below par score of 138 runs off 20 overs. Manan Vohra played well for his 25 runs while Axar Patel played a superb unbeaten innings of 38 runs to help Kings XI push the score beyond 130-run mark. Bangalore bowling was superb to say the least as all the bowlers produced tidy spells to keep opposition to a modest total on a wicket offering plenty of assistance.
Royal Challengers Bangalore woes seem to be endless as they have now lost four games on the trot as fans will want them to win the last two games to salvage some pride to cap off what has been one of their most woeful seasons since the inception of Indian Premier League. Kings XI are well and truly in the hunt as a victory here means that still stand a chance to make it to the last four of the competition.
