Ashwin-led side register a four-run win on Monday
Kings XI Punjab pile more misery on Delhi Daredevils after registering a four-run win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Delhi on Monday.The day started with the home side’s captain Gautam Gambhir winning the toss and opting to field first.
His decision paid dividend as the visitors never managed to get going and kept losing wickets at regular intervals, because of which their total was restricted to just 143 for the loss of eight wickets in allotted 20 overs.
Middle-order batsman Karun Nair finished the innings with the top score of 34 off 32 balls with the help of four boundaries. He was well supported by opener KL Rahul (23 off 15 with the help of three fours), right-handed batsman Mayan Agarwal (21 off 16 with the help of three fours) and hard-hitting David Miller (26 off 19 with the help of one four and one six).
For the home side, pacer Liam Plunkett produced an outstading display with the ball as he claimed figures of 3 for 17 in his first overs. He was well supported by pacer Trent Boult and Avesh Khan, who claimed two wickets each.
In reply, Delhi had a decent start and reached to 40 for one inside first five overs. However, from there on, the home side lost four wickets for just 36 runs to and were reduced to 76-5 in 12 overs.A 47-run sixth-wicket partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Rahul Tewatia brought the game to the situation where Delhi became favorite.
But once Tewatia departed on the final ball of the 18th over, the game once again turned on its and Delhi finished with the score of 139 for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs.Iyer finished the innings with the top score of 57 off 45 balls with the help of five fours and one six.
For Kings XI Punjab, pacers Ankit Rajpoot, Andrew Tye and leg-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed two wickets each.
