Kings XI Punjab finally register their first win by defeating Rising Pune Supergiants by 6 wickets

The tenth game in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League saw Rising Pune Supergiants pitted against team at the bottom of league i.e Kings XI Punjab at IS Bindra Stadium,Mohali.

The match saw Kings XI Punjab register their first win in this year’s competition as their openers Murali Vijay and Manan Vohra scored crucial half centuries after their bowlers produced an excellent performance to keep Rising Pune Supergiants to a score of  152 runs after 20 overs.Though the late flurry of wickets did cause some nerves in the camp but Glenn Maxwell led the way with unbeaten 32 runs off 14 balls to see his side to win the game by 6 wickets.M Ashwin did take three wickets with his leg spin variations to bring Pune back in contention momentarily.

The match saw a tight contest as Rising Pune Supergiants did not execute their bowling plans on the night.Earlier in the day,MS Dhoni won the toss for Rising Pune Supergiants and decided to bat first under searing hot temperature.Faf du Plessis once again showed good form as he scored 67 runs off 53 balls and anchored the innings together for his side.The South African batsmen did struggle to cope with hot weather as he could launch any big shots towards the end of his innings.Steve Smith proved to be ideal foil for Du Plessis as both combined to take the team’s total towards 152 runs after 20 overs.Smith scored 38 runs off 26 balls to propel his team over 150 run mark.

The win will provide some respite for Kings XI Punjab as they started their campaign on a bad note while MS Dhoni led Rising Pune Supergiants might have to make changes in the bowling if they are to get back towards winning ways.
