Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first in order to chase down the score set by Kolkata Knight Riders.The openers Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir provided good start to the innings as they put on a 69 partnership.Robin Uthappa was dismissed by off spinner Harbhajan Singh after scoring 36 runs off 20 balls.Gautam Gambhir scored yet another half century continuing his imperious run of form to score 59 runs off 45 balls.He did struck six fours and one sixes in his innings to anchor the innings till the 14th over when he was dismissed by left arm seamer Mitchell McClenaghan to leave Knight Riders 3 wickets for 121 runs.
The start for Mumbai Indians was far from ideal as Umesh Yadav struck early to dismiss Parthiv Patel to give momentum to Kolkata Knight Riders.Rohit Sharma being the leader for Mumbai Indians once again played a masterclass innings of 68 runs off 49 balls and struck eight boundaries and two sixes to remain unbeaten at the end.Ambati Rayudu provided support at the other end and scored 32 runs before he was dismissed by slow left arm orthodox spinner Shakib-ul-Hassan.Kolkata Knight Riders seemed to be in command when they dismissed Krunal Pandya and Jos Butler to leave Mumbai Indians 4 down for a score of 106 runs after 13 overs.
Kieron Pollard arrived at the center stage to join his captain Rohit Sharma as he was playing his 100th game in the Indian Premier League.He produced a quick half century off 17 balls that showed glimpses of effortless striking of a cricket ball traveling a fair distance.He put on a 72 run partnership with Rohit Sharma to see Mumbai Indians win the game in the 18th over by 6 wickets.
The win gives Mumbai Indians their second consecutive victory after their initial string of losses in the Indian Premier League while Kolkata Knight slumped to their second defeat of the competition.
